I'm having email problems. I'm not sure if my yahoo account will be working in 3 days and in my attempt to find out what to do to prevent this, my message got bounced back because the mailbox it was being sent to was full. Not sure what will happen but if you get a message bounced back to you when you email me, then be patient and I'll send everyone a new email address. This blows. All because I got SPAM that contained a virus that must only affect windows computers since my apple computer is working fine. Ugh!

In other news...today was the first day of the last rotation!!! yea!!! I'm in the NICU: neonatal intensive care unit. Today I saw a baby that was born at 23 weeks...yep, 17 weeks premature. Previability is usually before 24 weeks but this family wanted everything done to try and save the baby so the peds team tried and apparently despite the small size, he was lucky (debateable) that the smallest intubation tube fit. However, his lungs are underdeveloped so the artificial surfactant does not seem to be working since he's had 3 doses and is still on the vibratory ventilator. Next he will move to the regular ventilator. He's already had 1 episode of sepsis and who knows what type of learning disabilities he'll have in the future but that's okay because the parents will have their son...provided he makes progress...which has happened to some other babies chilling in the NICU so there's hope for this kid to live. When they're that young, they look like little rats.

Argh! I'm getting pissed off at the stupid emergency weather alert people. For christ's sake, everytime it rains here it's a flash flood hazard!!! Is it really necessary to put those alerts up more than once every couple hours?!? Apparently so since in this hour alone, I've sat through 2 of them while trying to watch the final Trading Spaces Home Free show where they show the winners. And right as they were about to announce which home owner won, they cut to that stupid alert. Who the hell cares if there's a potential for flooding?!? The damn city floods if it rains at any point. Ugh!
