By the way, Dad, spam costs $2.63 ($2.50 + tax)
Well, thanks to my dad's suggestion (serious or not, I followed it), I made spam musubi for the potluck. And the few people brave enough to try it, thought it wasn't too bad...either that or they were good at lying about it. So I have left overs for snacks today, tomorrow, and monday...if I ate only 2/day (I cut them in half so no one would feel bad about trashing it if they didn't like it). I think the aversion to spam is only prevalent in my age group and younger since most of these people were older than me and had honestly had spam in other forms. Someone had spam sandwiches as a kid - uncooked spam sandwiches. Now, I like spam on my somen and that's uncooked but it's small enough that I don't think about it. To bite into a chunk of it? I don't think so. Jess was traumatized by spam at a summer camp where it was a food relay race and she had to eat a chunk of spam. I think if that were my first exposure, I'd probably stay away from the stuff myself. One of the people at the potluck, Joby, said that the mixture of salt and sugar fits perfectly into the diet of new orleans residents - if it will clog the arteries and contribute to diabetes, people will eat it. Well, I'm going to take it easy these next two days to prevent burnout for monday. I did a test drive to the testing center and it takes 5 minutes to get there from my house. I'll probably leave at 7:00 just because traffic sucks in the morning on the roads I need to take. But at least parking is free. Oh and last night ?lice and Joby both said that if my car doesn't start for some reason on monday I can go wake them up and they'd take me to my test. So the plan is: Wake up around 6, crawl out of bed at 6:15, eat a lite breakfast of fruit and cereal, get in my car and drive at 7 am, take test, come home, get drunk with friends, wake up tuesday sometime, lay out in the sun, start packing stuff for my trip, go see movies, and pray to god and any other deities out there that are listening that I passed this damn test. Okay, maybe I better stick to one since the others might get pissed that I don't trust that one will get the job done.
Just learned that the people who do the morning show of one my primary radio stations were axed. The corporation who owns the station decided not to renew their contracts. The people filling in are lame and the woman's voice is irritating as hell. And apparently the hosts of the show didn't even know it was going to happen and then they had a meeting with the station execs and found out they weren't going to have a job anymore. Well, it used to be a funny duo doing the morning show that woke me up in the morning but now it sucks. I guess I'll just listen to the other stations.
Surprise surprise...it's raining. This is really getting annoying. Where is all the rain coming from? It was so nice earlier today and now this. Tomorrow was supposed to be the potluck for the condo neighbors but it's looking like that can be impossible. Hmmm...unless it only rains in the morning. Well, back to work.
So the lightning and thunder have died down a bit and I took the opportunity to venture outside a shoot a couple pics and a little movie clip. The river outside my apartment is slowly growing since this street seems to be lower than the streets connected to it. Oh and the pumps can only pump out 1/2 inch of water out of the city per hour and since rain is falling faster than that, the pumps get overwhelmed easily. I bet the dip in the interstate is flooded out by now as well. After the tropical storm last year they put up measuring sticks to see how deep it gets during storms. Well, enjoy! I haven't had a chance to make the pictures smaller so if you download them you can adjust it to see the whole picture but that's up to you.
It's yet another day filled with thunderstorms. Let's see, this is 11 days straight and it started on june 1st...almost like nature knew May was over. Well, I hope the weather is nice elsewhere...particularly in Las Vegas. I must say this about AAA, they certainly don't go cheap on you. Even though I have yet to receive my membership card and other fun free stuff you get for paying $71, they sent me my tourbook and map of Vegas immediately after I ordered it and that got here in 3 days. I'm going to eat some breakfast since I woke up with a headache and maybe food will help since the tylenol i took an hour ago doesn't seem to be working too well.
did you know that while there's cardiac tamponade, tamponade by itself means putting in a tampon. well...both involve blood...
shiver...check this out at your own risk! Rheumatoid Arthritis
I love the humor I find when studying pathology images for the boards. Take a look at this site. A picture of an autopsy of a person who had scoliosis and it's written in the present tense as if they were to sew him back up, he would be fine and dandy. Too bad he's DEAD so whether or not he's suffering the complications of scoliosis seems irrelevant! ahhh...pathology humor...
I visited the Fruit Leather website just now. I love that stuff. Chris sent me a bunch of strawberry fruit leather so I'll always have fruit to take with me to school. But I noticed that they had a bunch of flavors I haven't tried yet so I ordered a sampler of 36 (4 each) and it was pretty cheap too (about 39 cents a piece)...granted not as cheap as what it costs at trader joe's (or at least not as low as chris' employee discount) but still pretty good. Well, that's all I have to say for now. Oh and I'm glad that while there are thousands of diseases out there waiting to strike millions of people and some still waiting to make their debut, I'm glad that there are only a relative handful that actually are seen on a daily basis. I'm also very grateful for pda technology.
