Life at Med School

the life of a torn bubble trying to stay afloat |
Oh why am I so good at wasting time? Well, I had to go to the shopping mall to try and find some pants to match the baby scrubs I bought for Sherry in case the bottoms that came in the set don't fit her. Yes, I know most 3 year olds don't wear 18 month clothes but it looked large so I bought them anyway and Janine says that some of Sherry's 18 month clothes still fit her. Well, in my true style, I went to one store and then I went to the other clothes store and some others in between to make sure there wasn't something that was a better match. I couldn't find normal pants to match but I found some tights like pants that sort of matched and a top that said princess that looked cute. Then I found a cool book but then felt the need to drive over to the Barnes and Noble down the road to use my discount card. Now, when I say discount, I basically get to avoid paying tax and maybe save 1.5% max since the tax here sucks, as I have made a point to belabor multiple times. Anyway, then I stayed there for awhile trying to find a book for Sherry. Then I found the Pink Grapefruit Green Tea I wanted to buy (it smells better before it's brewed and doesn't really taste like grapefruit afterwards - I'm disappointed). Oh and my clinical Diagnosis prof is cited in the Idiot's Guide to Tailgating under the Alcohol section since he did a study on those over the counter hangover "remedies" and they decided to cite him in that little book. A bunch of the T3s and T4s participated in that study. So I decided to check that out. And then I came home and had chicken salad for dinner and watched "The Bachelor." There's some young girls on that show trying to get hitched. Someone is 22 and I think the oldest is in her early 30s. Okay, not that I would ever go on tv and endure that hell but if I would, I certainly would wait until I was older than 28 and had lost all hope of finding a man on my own or with the help of people who know me. The 23 year old was crying when the other chick was up front about the friction between the 23 year old and some other chick. And in the end, the 23 year old gets to stay cause the guy feels sorry for her and wants to give her another chance to impress him. And since he chose her last, they kept showing her about to cry everytime she wasn't chosen. Some other girl's father in the slammer and is embarassed to tell the guy yet tells him he has to wait to hear the whole story about her dad yet she claims to be proud of her father. So why not tell the guy right away? I guess it's all about drama. This is almost as stupid-funny as the Sorority Life series on MTV (I admit to watching 2 episodes) but not as bizarre as the Anna Nicole Show (what can I say, TS Isidore and Hurricane Lili freed up lots of time in my hectic schedule) featuring the very gay asian "designer" Bobby Trendy. Well, now back to reality and pathology. This cardiovascular stuff is interesting and it sucks that we lost lectures and PBLs because these stupid storms were attracted to louisiana. Get this, on Nov. 2nd (a saturday) there will be a make up day of school (at least at the undergrad campus) due to the week we lost because of the 2 storms. Well, it really depends on if the profs want to use that day for classes. This block will be long over by the time that day rolls around so we better not have classes at the med school since the schedule will be back to normal. Hey cool, airplane games that you can play against other passengers somewhere on the plane. The airline industry is suffering but apparently spending the extra bucks to install those things is worth it to some airline. I bet it will only be in first class on certain flights (like those long international flights and maybe a hawaii flight) like those American Airline 1st class seats that have the lumbar support bar and the leg rest or the United 1st class seats that have separate screens for each 1st class passenger so you can watch whatever you want and come with the special headsets that block out the background plane engine sounds. As much as I enjoy those occasions when I get to fly first class (thanks dad!), I also really love it when I get to have the 3 seats on the side by myself to curl up and sleep. Once I even got a full row of 5 seats and cause I'm short, I could completely stretch out. That happened on an early morning flight to Connecticut on my way to my UCONN med school interview. Even 2 seats by the window is workable. Just be careful since it really hurts when the flight attendants whack your feet with the cart or their body parts. Oh boy, look at that, another perfect waste of time. I need to shower now. By the way, I had to redo the page layout of this site which is why I have the puppy dog theme here and the kitty theme on the archive page. It was easier to do this than to redo the butterfly one. Besides, you couldn't really see the butterflies anyway.
You know, it's days like these that make me think maybe I should stop going to lecture. We started at 8:30 am, had the usual 1 hr lunch break and then went until 4 pm only because the lecturer really didn't care to give a full lecture. I'm tired and yet I need to get more work done before I head off to dreamland. Looking at when I last wrote on this thing, I realize that I haven't done much to this page in awhile. Well let's see...Isidore came and went and dumped tons of water on the state and flooded one of the major hurricane evacuation routes and then 1 week later Hurricane Lili came and did the same thing but to another part of Louisiana since the hype was bigger here than the actual storm once it hit. Not that I'm asking for more but Lili was a category 4 and then wimped out thankfully to a 2 or a 3 (I can't remember) before trashing the coastal cities. Why people choose to live there is beyond my comprehension but I guess if you're a fisherman by trade, it's the best place to live but I doubt all those folks are fishermen. As a result of these 2 storms, my schedule got messed up which is why I had school until 4 pm today.
