Life at Med School

the life of a torn bubble trying to stay afloat |
So I got back to New Orleans yesterday and today I had to take care of paying my overdue bills and getting health insurance. Well, I discovered that a family death does not let you off the hook for late fees and that the people who work at the Blue Cross/Blue Shield office are not the ones to ask about getting a new health plan. That and until you sign on the dotted line, they won't tell you everything about the plans they offer. Tomorrow I'll try calling the 1 800 number on the website and talk to people who do know things or at least find an agent in town to talk with and get this taken care of. I may need to harass the HMSA folks to expedite this but one thing's for sure, I'm not going back to that office again! I haven't even signed up for a plan and they're already giving me the run around! But at least I know what plan I want or at least need to get so I can continue to get care for my thyroid problem. And then I went to the orientation meeting and because of the West Nile virus, Dr. Lazarus told us we had to wear insect repellant with deet and sunscreen if we go to the 2nd day at the bayou. I think since I'm not helping out on that day, I may not go just because I want to relax before school starts on monday and just work on getting food for lunch and making a nice dinner so I can have leftovers for the week. I was going to make something using my crock pot but since UPS only left one notice, it got sent back to the shipper before I got back and now I have to wait a month before I get it...if I ever do! I think I may buy either the heart healthy or the diabetic cookbook since all I have is the one betty crocker cookbook, a cookie cookbook I bought in elementary school, and the microwave cookbook my brother Craig gave me a few years ago (it had strange recipes like chicken flavored popcorn). But once I get my crockpot I have to get a crockpot cookbook. Well, now I'm going to barnes and noble.com to try and buy my textbooks at a cheaper price since I get a 5% discount with my reader's advantage card I bought today. Oh wait, let me just say how much I hate this state and the stupid 9% tax. I have my discount card that gives me a 10% discount at Barnes and Noble stores but here, I basically only get a 1% discount because of the tax!!! That just pisses me off! The only way it's worth it is if I buy books in Oregon where there's no tax or in Hawaii where at least I get a 5-6% discount (4.something% tax there). Okay, I'm done. by the way, check out my cousin Chris' thoughts at http://publicparliament.blogspot.com
Today is Christopher's 20th birthday!!! He's the baby of the family. I turned 25 two weeks ago on July 22 (I do accept late cards and gifts and all major credit cards...so does chris). Chris is weird. He wants to be sterilized and be a US supreme court justice (he's too good for the state supreme court). School starts on the 12th so I'll be writing more because I'll have a reason to procrastinate. I'll be back in NOLA on the 7th. Bye bye
