Life at Med School
the life of a torn bubble trying to stay afloat

Wednesday, June 12, 2002

Well, I have been really busy these past days (or should I say weeks?). I moved into my new home which took a few days because I had to drive back and forth between Deming and Metairie (about 15 minutes during low traffic times) and then loading up the car took forever because the big bin went missing right about the time I needed to use it. So needless to say, my arms got very tired and sore from carrying all my stuff down to the car. Fortunately, there were some carts at the condo so I had an easier time unloading the car otherwise, it would have taken longer and I would have cried. The security guard at Deming was being an ass to us. When we were loading up our cars (Jess and Satya were also packing up), we had to get buzzed into the building at the loading dock several times because we didn't have anything to use to keep the door open. Well, I was buzzing in and he wouldn't open the gate. Instead he comes and says that we can't keep pushing the button because he has other stuff to do. What a joke! His only job is to buzz people in! He's an old guy who couldn't really be expected to protect us except by calling 911 or campus security. So he starts scolding me for making him do his job. All he has to do is push a button. It's not like he has to walk to a door to unlock it. So he asks why I didn't put something to block the door and so I said it was because we didn't have anything then he says, "well you better find something." I just ignored him and walked away and made him find something if he didn't want to do his job. Here's where it gets annoying. Later that night, I was finishing up packing my car and I had taken two bags to the service elevator and was bringing a third. Well, they turn off the service elevator at 7 pm and it was 7:15. So I took one bag down and asked the security guy (same guy) if they could turn the elevator back on and he said he had no control over that. So I decided to take down the other two bags down the stairs by the service elevator and I propped the door open with one bag while I went up 6 flights of stairs to get the other bag. I get down there and this ass who had yelled at me for not propping open the door a few hours before was now yelling at me FOR propping the door open!!! What the hell! I wanted to just scream at him and tell him that but I decided that since it was my last time I had to see this guy, I would just leave it alone and complain about him to other former and current deming residents and you folks on the WWW.
Anyway, this past week I painted my bedroom, bathroom and living/dining room. I really like the color I chose for my bedroom because sometimes it looks blue and in other lighting it looks lavender. Pretty cool, huh! The bathroom is a light blue and the living/dining room is a light green that has blue undertones. Getting the idea? I like the color blue - it's a calming color. I'm tired now and I still have to put together the dining set I got from Sam's club. I ran into my friend Adam when he was helping Tristan and his wife move into the condo a few doors down from me and asked if he wouldn't mind helping me and he graciously agreed. We had to tie the table top to the roof of his car and the whole way back I was paranoid about the thing coming loose and killing the people in the dinky car behind us. And Adam kept teasing me about my paranoia. It didn't move an inch. And he had accidently left one of the ties on top of the car loose and it didn't fall off the car either! Anyway, I'm hungry now so it's time for me to sign off.
